The last time I saw Adam Ray was during the wild 80's. The balls out performance back then was epic. Everyone's minds were blown by the theatrics, pyrotechnics, and lighting displays. Nicko McBrains's rhythms in Run to the hills had every aspiring drummer beating away, and fledgling guitarists grew blisters trying to keep up with the galloping riffs of Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. Steve Harris's unique finger-picking style had every bass player trying to keep up as his fingers blazed over the strings. Rising into the mix like a razor was Bruce Dickinson's dynamic vocal mastery, cutting through. They played with conviction and true dedication, like masters of their craft. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better.
While heading to the show this weekend in Sunrise, FL, I was speculating that it should be a good show. I was glad to see the band after all these years; however, I didn't think they would be as good as they were back in the old days. Many bands from the 80's that are still playing today don't seem to have the same energy or technical skills as they did in their "Prime". Well, after seeing the show this past weekend, I was wrong. I was in awe at how much better they were after all these years. The Band was right on. Note for Note just as it was written and recorded. The addition of Janick Gers's guitar skills created a sonic wall of guitar that slammed you in the face. The sound was perfect, the driving rhythms, and the pure vocals. By how the band members were smiling, rocking, and having a great time, you could see that there was no other place in the world that they wanted to be. Right there in front of their fans and doing what they do best. Excellent show. Highly recommended.
